Twenty years ago, David Harlow launched a non-standard motor insurance broker called Insure Your Motor. David and his business partners developed Insure Your Motor into a company with a GWP of over £50 million and a staff of around 130. Throughout his journey with Insure Your Motor, he met and worked alongside Craig Dunckley (Director of Quote Detective) and Gareth Evans (Director of Quote Detective).

When David decided to sell the business in 2012, he kept in touch with Craig and Gareth. They all believed there was a gap in the market to build a bigger, better, and more customer-focused organization. After a short hiatus from the industry, David, Craig, and Gareth decided to start working on Quote Detective.

Gareth Evans, Pricing and Underwriting director at Quote Detective said, “I have worked with Granite Underwriting for 6 years with Quote Detective and personally for over 15 years.”

“We highly value the relationship we have built with Granite Underwriting…”

When asked why he enjoyed working with us he explained, “The working relationship and open dialogue from Granite is extremely important to us at Quote Detective, we want to build a long-lasting sustainable relationship with our insurer partners. It’s not just about the rates. As innovators ourselves, we also love how you are always looking at adapting further technology to enhance products. Granite Underwriting offers market-leading rates for non-standard business across all products and has evolved with the adaptation of technology over the years.”

Gareth further stated, “We sell various Granite products such as Car, Van, Courier, Taxi, and short-term insurance, these products are easy to transact with the use of an API. Quotes are returned instantly or at the most, within a few minutes. This allows us to quote, bind, and send out documents in a matter of minutes giving us a big advantage over non-standard competitors that can take hours to do the same.”

Gareth added, “The unique thing that Granite Underwriting do is provide quotes in the non-standard arena using technology to transact the business at speed and with ease. This is a huge advantage when it comes to competition. There had been various issues in the past surrounding non-standard insurance before Quote detective and our relationship with Granite and their bespoke offering, and this added further value in this market to our superb partnership!”

Quote Detective is based in Wales and works tirelessly to provide the best service to their customers and build a trusting and transparent relationship, so it comes as no surprise that their relationship with Granite is outstanding; as Gareth puts simply, “We have a great relationship, managed through our Development manager who keeps us in the loop with any changes and is always there to provide in-depth industry knowledge and comprehensive support should it be needed.”

Finally, Gareth expressed, “We highly value the relationship we have built with Granite Underwriting and we are very much looking forward to working with Granite to grow the account further and adopting more technology to make transacting business even easier. Having worked with Granite Underwriting for a number of years now we hope our excellent relationship with them will persist and continue to grow.”
