Motor Trade Insurance

The Granite Underwriting Motor Trade team looks at each case on its own merits.

Unlike our competitors, there are no straight decline categories. We write road risks (up to 5 drivers) and associated liability risks for the sole trader working from premises, or home, to the larger risks.

You can obtain your quote via our online portal and you will receive a quote for the standard risks instantly. For those risks that are referred, our underwriting team has a wealth of underwriting experience so we are able to offer bespoke cover to meet your client’s needs.

No risk is too small and we do not require a minimum level of support.

Mid-Term Adjustment Process

Please raise the details of the required adjustment via our online Motor Trade Portal.

If further details are required, or you have any enquiries regarding the adjustment, please click ‘add note‘ to the motor trade portal; this will be attached to the relevant policy and a member of the team will review — usually within 24 hours.

Does our Motor Trade Insurance cover people who have resided outside the UK?

Yes, we do, provided they have lived in the UK for the last 18 months.

What documentation is required to get Motor Trade cover?

You are required to obtain the following from the Proposer within 21 days of inception:

  1. Copies of all current driving licences (photo card and counterpart).
  2. No Claims Discount confirmation from the previous insurer.

These should be sent to one of the following:

PostGranite Underwriting, The Lighthouse, 98 Liverpool Road, Formby, Liverpool, L37 6BS

Portal – Documents can be uploaded on the ‘policy document’ section of the online portal

What are the rules for adding and removing of vehicles to the MID?

The Proposer agrees to comply with the Motor Insurance Database (MID) regulations. The Proposer must add all permanently owned vehicles and vehicles for sale within 24 hours of purchase to the MID. If a vehicle is sold, or it becomes insured by another insurance policy, the vehicle must be removed from the MID within 24 hours. Failure to comply with these regulations will have an adverse effect on our ability to deal with any claim involving the vehicle, and the policy may be cancelled. For example:

  1. Late Notification of Additions – Haven Insurance will not pay for claims made by the Proposer or any Third Party unless specifically required to do so by law.
  2. Late Notification of Deletions – Haven Insurance may have to deal with a Third Party as the last known insurer – this may affect the Proposers No Claims Discount.
What is the procedure to make a claim for Motor Trade Insurance?

It is a condition of the policy that any claim, accident or loss is reported to Haven Claims within 24 hours, regardless of fault. You must assist us with all enquiries at all times.

If you fail to assist with our enquiries or report a claim within 24 hours, we will charge you a Late Reporting Excess of £500, and we may refuse to settle the claim except as required by law.

Claims must be reported to Haven Claims by calling 0345 092 0700, and further correspondence can be sent to Haven Claims, Suite 2a, Second Floor, 160 London Road, Sevenoaks, Kent, TN13 1BT.

All claims are always recorded for the policyholder regardless if it was the policyholder or any named driver driving at the time of the accident, as it is the policyholder who has the contract of insurance and it is their insurer who covers any incurred loss.
